Mississauga-Erindale Community BBQ a Success
Mississauga– On
Saturday, July 28, Omar Alghabra, Member of Parliament for
Mississauga-Erindale, and Harinder Takhar, Member of Provincial
Parliament for Mississauga-Centre co-hosted their annual joint
Community BBQ at Huron Park. The event was intended to bring
families and neigbours together in order to continue to enjoy
the summer and to provide an opportunity for the community to
interact with their elected representatives. People also had
the opportunity to meet and speak with the Honourable Ken Dryden
who was the guest of honour. Also in attendance were Gurbax
Malhi, MP for Brampton-Gore-Malton, Bonnie Crombie, federal
Liberal candidate for Mississauga-Streetsville and Charles
Sousa, provincial liberal candidate for Mississauga-South.
“It was a wonderful gathering that brought our constituents
together. Minister Takhar and I are fortunate to represent such
a dynamic and engaged community. We are grateful to Mr. Dryden
and everyone else who showed up. The picnic was a great
success,” said Omar Alghabra.
“We wanted to demonstrate to Canadians how their provincial
and federal representatives are not only working together to
respond to their needs but in bringing people together in
enjoying the summer season,” said Minister Takhar.
There were almost 1,000 people in attendance, including Peel
Police Chief Mike Metcalf, Peel Police Acting Superintendent
Adams and Acting Inspector Jarvis from Division 11. While adults
had the opportunity to speak to their elected representatives in
a casual environment as well as socialize with friends and
neighbours, children were entertained with face-painting,
temporary “Canada-themed” and henna tattoos, caricatures and a
water splash pad.
Additionally, fire fighters from Fire Station 110 were on hand
to teach children about fire safety and to give excited
youngsters tours of the trucks. Several environmental
organizations were also present, distributing and providing
information on how to be environmentally friendly. And finally,
hundreds of burgers and refreshments were served as people
mingled and enjoyed the perfect weather.
The day was remarkably successful in both joining families and
displaying multi-level government cooperation for the good of
the community. |
