Mississauga MP and MPP
Community BBQ a crowd pleaser
Mississauga–
On Sunday, June 25, Omar
Alghabra, Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Erindale, and
Harinder Takhar, Member of Provincial Parliament for
Mississauga-Centre co-hosted their first joint Community BBQ at
Erindale Park. The event was intended to bring families together
in order to celebrate both the beginning of summer and upcoming
Canada Day.
“It was a
great opportunity to mingle with our constituents. Minister
Takhar and I are blessed to represent such a dynamic and engaged
community. The picnic was a wonderful success” said Omar
Alghabra.
“We
wanted to demonstrate to Canadians how their provincial and
federal representatives are not only working together to respond
to their needs, but in bringing people together in celebration
of Canada Day and the start of the summer,” said Minister
Takhar.
There
were almost 1,000 people in attendance, including Peel Police
Chief Mike Metcalf, Peel Police
Acting Inspector
Brian Labute, Navdeep
Bains, Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Brampton South and
Albina Guarnieri, Member of Parliament for Mississauga East-Cooksville.
While adults had the opportunity to speak to their elected
representatives in a casual environment as well as socialize
with friends and neighbours, children were entertained with
face-painting, temporary “Canada” tattoos, mehndi, balloons,
kite flying and soccer games.
Additionally, fire fighters from Station 107 were on hand to
teach children about fire safety and to give excited youngsters
tours of the truck. Enersource, who was also present, handed out
free light bulbs and distributed information on how to be
energy-efficient during the summer. And finally, M&M Meat Shops
prepared hundreds of burgers and hot dogs as people interacted
and enjoyed the perfect weather.
The day
was remarkably successful in both joining families and
displaying multi-level government cooperation for the good of
the community.
