The Honourable Navdeep Singh Bains, MP for
Mississauga-Brampton South and Omar
Alghabra, MP for Mississauga-Erindale
hosted a forum with local environmentalists
entitled
Greening The Mainstream: Making The Truth
About The Environment Convenient.
The event which attracted over 200 local
residents featured a screening of the
award- winning documentary,
An
Inconvenient Truth followed by a
discussion with local environmental experts.
“It is important for Mr. Alghabra and me to
have a chance to hear what our constituents
think on today’s key issues,” said Mr.
Bains. “This event has been a great
learning experience for everyone involved.
Battling climate change is one of the great
challenges of our generation.”
“The realities that will be faced by an ever
warmer world are hard to imagine,” said Mr.
Alghabra. “This event not only brought
attention to the climate change issue, but
also was a learning experience for all those
in attendance, including Mr. Bains and
myself.”
The discussion, led by panelists
Professor GWK Moore,
Professor Matthew Hoffmann, Dr. Brad Bass,
and Mr. Chris Lowry, focussed on how to
create a better environmentally sustainable
community. Many residents took the
opportunity to voice their opinions and
concerns during the hour long discussion.
“I wish to thank
Professor GWK Moore,
Professor Matthew Hoffmann, Dr. Brad Bass,
and Mr. Chris Lowry
for their
help in making this event possible,” said
Mr. Alghabra. “The knowledge and experience
were critical to the success of the event.”
